Poem :- "Feeling Tired"

To be read slowly...

Feeling Tired

Some days, you wake up feeling tired,
And the whole world feels tired with you.
You drag your feet out of bed, and wonder why you have to.
Your eyelids feel heavy,
Your throat is dry,
And every breath you exhale is seemingly incapable of expelling the heat - the oppressive heat! - which is trapped within your body.

On these days, when you go out into the streets,
You seem to only meet people wearing dull expressions,
Their minds deadened by the boring and tiresome details of everyday life.
You see them trudging along the pavements,
Heads bowed down, shoulders drooping.
You see them seated at bus-stops,
Staring blankly into the distance,
Waiting in vain for the fulfilment of their desire to break free from their monotony,
To stop worrying about which deadlines are due
Or when to pick up the children
Or who has been talking behind their backs.
All of them had woken up tired, and yearn to rest too.

On such days, you can watch countless vehicles ply up and down endless stretches of roads,
Their engines groaning,
Their exhaust fumes forming a stagnant, suffocating layer of city air from which you cannot escape.
Your eyes water,
Your throat itches,
And the humid, sweltering heat around you fights its way into your body,
Through your skin and every available orifice,
But mostly through your mind.

On those days, you wish for a bed to lie on, but the night is slow in coming,
And sleep is elusive.
