Late nights, red eyes

I just realised how red my eyes are. Too many late nights. A number of my colleagues had gone on leave this week, and one of them was posted out on duty for half the time. The workload remained the same, heavy and burdensome...it's always there, it doesn't decrease, and it doesn't say "I can wait until tomorrow" even though I have slogged past official working hours. In fact, I want to go home now.
