Szabadság, szerelem
Caught the movie Children of Glory at GV Europa. It's a film set in 1956 in Budapest, Hungary at a time when a student-led movement grows into a full-blown and bloody revolution against the unwelcomed Soviet Communists. Karcsi Szabó, member of the Hungarian national water polo team, gives up his position in the Olympic squad to join his newfound girlfriend Viki Falk and her friends in their fight for Hungary's liberty. But the secret police fires into the crowd, turning the peaceful demonstrations into a sea of red. But the resistance continues. When the government finally falls by end-October and the Soviets withdraw, Karcsi rejoins his teammates and heads to Melbourne for the 1956 Games. But soon after the squad departs, the Soviets re-invade Budapest, bringing a fresh wave of bloodshed into the city. Half a world away, the Hungarian water polo team faces off against the Russians in one of the bloodiest matches in the sport's history. A sombre, impressive and thought-provoking production.
