Camp Sunshine Training

Went down to Winsfield Hall today for Club Rainbow's Camp Sunshine Training. Was assigned to Group 2, which was led by Leonard and Isabel. Other than the group leaders and Hui Ming, Eugene, Evelyn and Peason, the other befrienders were all first-timers to Club Rainbow: Sally, Lorraine, Estarino, Chze Keong, Andrew, Qian Hao and our nurse Kelvin.

Saw some of the other befrienders from my group last year as well, including Mingfa, Poh Lin, Amelia, Paul and Angeline. Le_Charlotte, who did the 33-km run earlier in the morning with the SgRunners, was also there and looked surprisingly refreshed despite her long-distance morning run.

Our training day got off to an early start, with registration starting at 8 am. We played some warm-up ice-breakers, attended a medical briefing and a social work briefing, and then played a few games which highlighted relevant and important concepts and themes relating to teamwork and how to handle children suffering from terminal and chronic illnesses. By the time it was early afternoon, however, I was feeling extremely exhausted, and began to enter into my "screen-saver" mode.

At 5 pm, the training course ended. Paul and Angeline suggested going out for dinner, and I agreed, since it had been a long time since we last met up. Angeline drove us down to Farrer Rd Market for a bite, and then we popped by the ice-cream shop at Serene Centre for dessert, but it was there where I began to doze off in the comfortable, air-conditioned setting. My memory of what happened in the ice-cream parlour is no longer clear, but somehow...eventually...Angeline and Paul finished their ice-cream and drove me home.

Today's training day was very meaningful. Pity I wasn't able to muster all my wits around me to really contribute to the group's activities.
