Красный Октябрь
Finished my 2nd novel of the year, Tom Clancy's "The Hunt for Red October".
I have never watched the film before, so flipping through the pages of Clancy's book was my first encounter of the gripping story of the nuclear submarine Krasny Oktyabr that broke away from her Soviet motherland to set off for America, triggering off a suspense-laden sequence of highly-charged military, diplomatic and covert operations involving the Russians, the Americans and the British.
Clancy is a masterful writer and certainly knows how to pin his readers to their seats, thirsting for more. Seemingly insigificant and unconnected details peppered in the earlier chapters come together later on to determine the fates of the various colourful characters in the story - literally, life and death for the pilots, seamen and submariners in the Atlantic Ocean.
This novel gets a 4/5 rating from me.
