October BG Run - Lord of the Rings
This October's BG Run offers a selection of three rings (or loops) which shall be called the Frodo Ring (16.5 km), the Aragorn Ring (23 km) and the Gandalf Ring (27 km).
psst...Only Aragorn Ring is shown in the map on the right.
The plan for all Ring-bearers is to start at 7 am sharp at the SMU, and run along Bukit Timah Road until Fourth Avenue. From there, run 500m up Fourth Avenue until the end, and then u-turn back to Bukit Timah Road. Then continue along Bukit Timah Road until Ngee Ann Poly, and then turn into Clementi Road.
Then run along Clementi Road, and turn left and run along the scenic 2-km long Ulu Pandan Canal, where we can stop for a quick toilet break at the Buona Vista MRT station. Bring coins if you want to purchase drinks from the vending machine at the MRT station.
From Buona Vista MRT station, we'll run until we hit Holland Road and then follow Holland Road all the way until the Botanic Gardens (15 km). At this point, all Frodo Ring-bearers are to turn left and run upslope along Cluny Road back to the SMU for their well-deserved break.
As for the other Ring-bearers, we'll do our usual route down Orchard Road, touching base at the Istana, then going along Cavenagh Road, crossing the overhead bridge at Newton Circus and running through the underground Newton MRT station, and finally chugging along the Bukit Timah Road stretch back to the SMU. Aragorn Ring-bearers to fall out at this point.
Gandalf Ring-bearers are to continue with the additional challenging 4 km Cluny Road-Nassim Road loop, before the job's done. :)
**Good news!** I've been informed by Tekko that Jo from the Osteopath Pain Relief Centre will be meeting us at the SMU after our run to (a) give a talk on how to select the right shoes for your legs, and (b) give individual foot and running gait analyses. It should be quite an informative session! :D

*2 thumbs up*
just queries hor, if the ring-bearers is to start at 7am sharp, what hppened to the other rings, who going to lead them ?
Hi Ronnie, all rings are to begin at the same time, i.e. 7 am, and proceed along the same route initially. The length of the ring depends on the "drop-off" points.
E.g. for Frodo, drop-off point is when we reach Gleneagles Hospital. For Aragorn, drop-off point is the SMU when we return there after 23 km. For Gandalf, just do an extra Cluny-Nassim loop.
